Argument Essay dft.

In all honesty, I don’t think schools should ban books with sophisticated topics; such as sex, rape, drugs and pregnancy. It happens in the real world and students should know that. Junior High schools and High schools would be affected with this issue.

           Students shouldn’t be limited on what books they have to read. They should have a say in what they read, and not be forced to read what the Board of Education “thinks” is good for “kids”. Some kids mature quicker than others, so why should they be limited? In a Middle school case, 8^th grade students shouldn’t be reading 6^th grade type of books. As students grow they realize life isn’t great, it comes with ups and downs. They shouldn’t be lied to, thinking this world is perfect. Nothing is perfect. Children should not be filled with false images that fairy tales gives us. For example there’s one part in the book, Crank by Ellen Hopkins, where Kristina disrespects her mom by saying “ Fuck You “. This shows how no child is perfect, words sometimes slip. “ Even caught up in confusion, I knew better than to repeat myself “ that is what she said to herself after saying the curse to her mom who slapped her so hard Kristina’s teeth rattled. This shows the reality of how some parents might take it. Because not all parents would yell at them, some would physically hurt them.

          Hiding such topics like these will give them ideas in where people aren’t bad. Are people bad ? Yes. There can be cruel people out there who don’t think of how the victim would feel. For example rape. When Kristina choose to sneak out of the house she lost something she didn’t think she’d lose. Her virginity. By Some guy that she thought was pretty nice and cool. She tried to protect herself by threating him to scream but bad luck for her, she was stuck in the middle of the forest. So that meant nobody could’ve heard her. All she could do is lay there and sob while he did the dirty. Hiding such topics like this is pretty useless because you’re going to have to end up telling your child of the dangers of the real world. As in giving him or her, the talk.

          Yes, I understand the content is graphic but it’s not like little kids will be able to read this. Children in elementary is obviously out of the question. Children in Middle school, it’s different. There’s tweens and teens in that category. 6^th graders wouldn’t be allowed to read this because they just got out of elementary, they wouldn’t be as matured. Some 7^th graders would be able to , less likely but some of them would. If I wanted to set limits I’d say 7^th grade would be the lowest grade category that’d be able to read this. 8^th would most definitely be able to read this. They’d be mature enough and understand the book. They won’t get easily influenced. And this I say, Students should be able to read books with sophisticated topics. They should not be banned, let them see the real world.

         

         

          

Reading response #4

Many can relate saying music is life or I love music. Everyone has their own taste. Some like rock, pop, techno, country, hip-hop, rap or metal. And to be honest my most proffered genres are Metal, deathcore and Rock. Yes I do get bashed on a lot with comments like " why do you like that music ?! " " are you emo or something ? " "thats the devils music " " all you can hear is screaming " "thats not real music " "that has no meaning" " all they talk is about is death" . But can you please define " Real Music " ? Exactly. You cant. Why ? Cause there's no such thing as " real music ". Music is music and everyone has their own taste. People say this music is pointless and has no meaning and how all they hear is screaming. This type of music DOES have a point, it DOES have a meaning and yes it does include screaming. But you can hear what theyre trying to say. This id more than music , its my reason to live. Bands have saved me and I proud to say that. One band people pick on a lot is Suicide silence, which is also my favorite band. Although the lead vocalists ( Mitch Lucker ) died , he left a great messgae towards me with this song named " You only love once " . Yes it involves cursing but I'll keep it PG. →With every step we take we’re falling apart If we only had one chance we'd breathe Let’s take the chance right now and scream You only live one life For a very short time So make every second divine Go! Live life hard This message that it sent me is to live life without regret, Make every second worth living for and memorable. " You only live once so just go nuts. We have one life so make it worth living , make every second divine. Life is short, dont hold back. Scream. Life shouldnt be wasted on sad things, , open up go out. Have fun. Let nothing stop you. But like now after I showed its meamings behind the song, are you still willing to to say ts satanic music, it has no meaning, No because this music is truly beautiful.

This novel " Crank " by Ellen Hopkins is about this perfect quiet girl named Kristina. She was Junior in a gifted High school. She seemed like a cool/sweet person or that was until she met the " monster " .
This monster made her hate everything about herself. So Kristina decided to change everything about herself , she changed so much of herself that she can hardly recognize who she even was. All of this chnaged after she met the monster. To me this means that this monster made a huge impact on her life, maybe this was the reason for the big change Kristina had on herself. Nobody really changes themselfs over anything small.
Kristina also shows a change in character.  She starts to take drugs/tobacco and have sexual inercourses. She started to do both things cause of Adam. He was the first to offer Kristina a cigarette and Kristian accepted. He later then offered her more intense things like cocaine. Few days after he first sniff she calims to want more as if she was addicted. And to get more she was willing to hook up with a Guy. This guy named chase took her and raped her. He even took her virginity away .. something Adam almost did. The things she did with Adam was something very different,  having sexual relationships was out of the ordinary for Kristina.
This is all weird how all of this happens after she meets the monster. After she comes with her dad. Maybe being with her dad wasnt the bsst decision ..

In the first book of Cirque du Freak, Vampires assistant by Darren Shan. I've paid more attention to the relationship of Darren Shan and Steve Leopard. On how it converted to a nice friendly one to a harsh hateful one. Everyone knows them as the best friends, including their own family. They've been best-friends since elementary. Darren's Mom says that Darren was attracted to Steve's Wildness. But, was she sure they were bestfriends ? Was this a happy friendship ? Nope.
The day both Steve and Darren attended the secret freak show, Steve saw something strange. One of the Act's looked very familiar. So Steve being the strong confident person he is stuck around to find Mr.Crepsly. After he found him he told him that he knew his secret. His secret of him being a Vampire. Steve tried black mailing the vampire by saying if he doesn't turn him into a vampire he'll tell the cops. And so Mr.Crepsly had no choice but to turn  Steve into a vampire. But no, it didn't work out. Steve's blood was evil so the process could not continue. The moment Mr.Crepsly said his blood was evil, Steve lashed out. He stated that when he grows up he's gonna hunt the vampire down and kill him, no matter what. But not only was Mr.Crepsly there to hear this , Shan was too. Darren was hiding behind a piece of furniture, and nobody noticed. Later on the next day Darren tried not to focus on what happened with Steve so he got his mind of him by thinking of Madam Octa. He thought she was so beautiful, that he had to have her. So Later that day he went running back to the location of the Freak show to steal Madam Octa. As he took her, he left a note behind saying " Do not Come looking for her. She will be in great care. Don't come or else i will report you to the police". But poor darren didn't know what's to come. What's to come is the price of friendship.
The day he invited Steve to his house, he showed him what he stole. When Darren was demonstrating how Madam Octa is worked, the spider bit Steve. He was left paralyzed. The only way to save him was to become a vampire himself. After he agreed to become one,steve was not stupid to know what happened. By all the clues that he gathered up on Darren's strange acts he determined that he was too a vampire. Steve hunted down Darren in the graveyard and said he too, was being killed. Darren tried explaining that this was the only way to save his life but steve did not want to listen. He vowed to kill them both. After that day he hated shan but shan did not hate him. He still thought of him as a friend. A Best friend.

This summer I read this book named " Haunted Objects " by Christopher Balzano and Tim Weisberg that I purchased at Barnes & Nobels. Out of the many stories this book had to offer, I choose the story " Robert's rules". This begins with a famous artist named Robert Eugene Otto who had a son named Robert Jr Eugene Otto. One day Robert fired one of his servants and she became furious! As a child she practiced voodoo spells and she still did as an adult. After being fired she put her powers to the test. She built a doll and gave it to RobertJr.( Eugene ) as a way to show that there was no hard feelings, but oh boy. That was the most horrible present ever
Eugene later came attached to the doll and named it Robert. But then Eugene suspected that Robert was no ordinary doll , he had a life of his own. Around the Otto's resident problems began to happen after Robert was welcomed. Things were disappearing and things were being broken. Eugene would always say " Robert did it ! ". Many years after after, Eugene left earth. Since then the Otto family packed up their things and moved out, or so they did. They left one thing behind, and that thing was Robert. The New family who moved in found Robert and gave him to their daughter.
This pattern repeated all over again. The child began to grow feelings for the doll , nice ones. But all those feelings were later being thrown out the window, the girl grew terrified of Robert. She cried every time the doll moved around the room but worse things came. She even claimed that Robert told her she wanted her dead. What was so scary about this was that one night, the  girl's parents woke up to their daughters' scream. What they saw was truly horrifying. Robert was at the end of her bed holding a knife. After that experience they officially done with that doll. They sent him packing to a Museum. Today till this day he is behind a thick glass presented in the Key west Museum which could be found in Key West,Florida .
